Beyond the Stereotype: Debunking Myths and Raising Awareness of Coprophenomena
Tourette syndrome is often reduced in popular culture to a single, sensationalized symptom: involuntary swearing. The reality is far more complex – and far more human.
This webinar invites you to look beyond the stereotypes and gain a clearer understanding of coprophenomena, a group of complex tics that can affect some people living with Tourette syndrome.
Historically described by Georges Gilles de la Tourette, these symptoms – including coprolalia (involuntary vocal expressions) and copropraxia (involuntary gestures) – have long fascinated clinicians and the public alike. Yet today we know that they represent only one aspect of a much broader neurological condition, and importantly, they are not required for diagnosis.
Join our guest speaker Professor Andrea E. Cavanna, neurologist and neuropsychiatrist at the University of Birmingham creating a more compassionate and informed conversation around Tourette syndrome – helping audiences move from curiosity or discomfort to understanding and respect.
