There are different approaches to reduce tics. Treatment is considered if tics causes physical problems, such as pain and/or affects daily functioning (school, work, home) and/or social/emotional difficulties.  Mild tics usually do not require treatment. 


+What causes Tourette Syndrome?

The exact cause of Tourette Syndrome is still not fully understood.
It appears to be various combinations of different genes and environmental factors that can cause the condition.


+Is there a cure for Tourettes Syndrome?

Tourette Syndrome cannot be cured, but there are different approaches to reduce tics.

+Is tourette hereditary?

There appears to be a genetic component to Tourette syndrome. However, a single gene that causes TS has still not been found. The inheritance of TS is complex and heredity does not explain everything.
